I am trying to fly a little every day this week in preparation for the drone build this weekend. After trying to search around the internet a little for help in flying I found mention the word Pinching vs Thumbs with regards to how people control the gimbals when flying. I watched a couple videos on Youtube to learn a bit more about it and I think it is worth me trying for sure.
Of course, this would be done with both hands but I had to take the picture so this is just my right hand. Here are the videos I watched the first is more about flying drones. The second one seems more about flying RC in general.
I think I do have a lot more control when pinching or I seem to… It also could just be that I am getting a bit better each time I practice in Liftoff which, by the way, has been awesome for learning to fly. I still need to try and be more smooth when switching directions and controlling the throttle.
I hope I can be airworthy over this next week. If I can fly in “level” mode I think I will be just fine it is “Acro” mode that will cause me issues. I am still not very good at leveling the quad back out once I go left or right. I have some trouble with forward and reverse but left and right gets crazy quickly it seems. I am not certain why left and right seem harder than forward and backward. Currently, the plan is to keep up following the guides in the simulator until this weekends build. Sunday will be the first actual flight and I will strap the GoPro to the drone for that footage so it should be entertaining! I am predicting at least one crash. Who knows maybe I will have it figured out well enough by then that I can fly without a crash. Either way, I will have the GoPro out filming all of us new people learning to fly! I should have some good footage to share.
I would love to hear others opinions on this leave some comments below. It seems that pinching gives finner control but I am sure there are thumb flyers out there that can fly just as well. Maybe its just my age but I seem to be more precise in my control while pinching but again this is all in the simulator we will see how real life flying goes.
